The Pravara Story

Pravara Theatre, formerly known as Pravara Art Studio, is a Bengaluru-based NGO established in 2013. With a vision to cultivate and promote performing arts prominently theatre, the organization focuses on nurturing young artistic talent and fostering a deeper appreciation for stagecraft. Over the years, Pravara Theatre has delivered performance-based and theatre education to diverse audiences across the country. In its 13-year journey, it has proudly presented more than 200 shows nationwide. Pravara Theatre continues to remain committed to enriching the cultural landscape and inspiring individuals passionate about theatre and the performing arts.

Pravara Theatre has played a significant role in shaping artistic careers, with numerous associated artists making their mark in theatre, television, and cinema. The organization continues to conduct regular theatre activities and offers intensive training programs serving a diverse group of participants, with a prominent focus on young enthusiasts, crafting confident, stage-ready artists. In addition, Pravara Theatre has extended its impact beyond the stage by delivering theatre-based education, workshops, and performances in schools, colleges, and corporate environments. With a strong foundation in amateur theatre and a commitment to continuous artistic exploration, Pravara Theatre remains dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape and inspiring individuals passionate about theatre and the performing arts. Since 2021, Pravara Theatre has been co-organizing the Bengaluru Short Play Festival.

Founder Director

Hanu Ramasanjeeva is a distinguished theatre director and actor with over 18 years of experience in the performing arts. In August 2013, he founded Pravara Theatre (formerly Pravara Art Studio) with a mission to inspire and empower young theatre enthusiasts. Since then, he has acted in over 30 plays and directed more than 25 productions in Kannada and English, presenting over 300 shows across the country. His early artistic journey also includes work in documentaries and telefilms.

Widely acclaimed by media, critics, and audiences alike, Hanu was recognized as one of the youngest directors in Kannada theatre in 2011. His influence extends beyond theatre into performance-based training and skill development programs for corporates and universities. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from BMS College of Engineering.

Among his accolades, he is the first recipient of the Professor R.V. Prabhakara Ranga Sangatana Award (2022), and a recipient of the Yuva Puraskara (2016). He gained national attention for his stage adaptation of the life of Saalumarada Thimmakka in 2017. His contributions have been honored by several theatre organizations, and he has also been felicitated by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, then Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
